Belle Brockhoff on board for ski ride of life

IT may be her greatest fear but boardercross is also her biggest drawcard.

For Belle Brockhoff, one of Australia's brightest snowboarding talents, her win in the boardercross at the New Zealand Winter Games last month was a giant relief.

Boardercross - known as snowboard cross in the Olympic Games - involves a group of snowboarders (usually four) who start simultaneously atop an inclined course, then race to reach the finish line first.

Brockhoff, 18, gave away the discipline two years ago after a few nasty falls.

"I had a number of crashes that gave me a real shake-up," she said. "Boardercross is my biggest fear and now that I've done that race recently, I've overcome that fear." Read More

One year after Colorado Mountain College received four-year accreditation for its pioneering ski and snowboard business program, shops are stocking a line of skis and boots designed by the school's students.

A unique partnership between the college and Nordica USA led to the development and marketing of a sidecountry-specific line of Austrian-made alpine skis and Italian-made boots built for both resort and backcountry skiing that is harvesting widespread accolades.

"This was so much more than design theory," said Michael Martin, director of a ski and snowboard business program in Steamboat Springs. "We had actual prototypes in the classroom and on the snow. London's Ski & Snowboard Show Moves To Earls Court

London's Ski & Snowboard Show lands in Earls Court for the first time Oct. 19-23.

The popular event has taken place at the London Olympia for 18 years, but this year it's moving to a new home.

Tim Holmes, head of snowsports, told OnTheSnow, "The show is one of the only events to use both the Grand Hall and the West Hall of Olympia, but due to redevelopment work, it would not have been possible to host the show here in 2011. We decided on Earls Court as it is a superb venue in terms of space and location." Read More
