THE RECORD: Snow wonder from Maryhill

Snowboard racer Matthew Carter

"Snowboarding for a living is a lot of fun"

When your day job consists of barrelling down mountains at high speeds, most people would look for less hazardous ways to unwind. Matthew Carter isn’t most people.

“I like kiteboarding,” the 21-year-old alpine snowboarder says of one of his favourite downtime activities. “I’ve probably almost killed myself a few times. My parents wouldn’t like to hear that. But it’s fun.”

San Bernardino firefighter wants to set snowboard record

"When he told me he's doing this for charity, I was totally on board,"

Between snowboarding and firefighting, Jason Buchanan has done some remarkable things in his life.
But what the Beaumont man plans to do Saturday is one for the record books. At least, that's the way he hopes it turns out.
Buchanan, 38, wants to establish a world record this weekend in Mammoth Lakes by being towed on a snowboard by a snowmobile traveling around 100 mph for at least 100 meters.

Aspen's Chris Klug named to Colorado Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame

ASPEN — Chris Klug still reminisces about those early days.

Those days spent negotiating the slopes of Mount Bachelor on a Burton Backhill — a wooden board with bungee straps for bindings and moon boots secured with layers of duct tape.

Those days spent piling into the back of his father's Jeep Wagoneer and heading off to Northwest Series races, or sleeping in the back of his mom's station wagon at Mount Bachelor, near Bend, Ore.

THINK GLOBAL - BUY LOCAL…

Local wood, local production, locally inspired – that’s what Greg Fortier is promising with his new Snowboard company.

“All our boards are designed for powder because we live in Revelstoke and that’s what Revelstoke’s all about and really, that’s all anyone wants to do, is ride powder,” he said. “Why not buy your snowboard that’s grown right here in Revelstoke?”

Mt. Bachelor Combines Snowboarding and Surfing at Inaugural Big Wave Challenge

Mt. Bachelor will launch the first ever on-mountain Big Wave Challenge on Saturday, April 30.  This new event concept will bring Big Wave style surfing to the mountains with a unique course featuring wave-sculpted snow features. This one of a kind event was inspired by Central Oregon’s proximity to numerous coastal surf breaks along with a strong population of multi-sport surfers and snowboarders in the region.  The surf connection in addition to Mt. Bachelor’s volcanic terrain with lava tubes forming natural waves during the winter months makes the Big Wave Challenge a natural fit with the mountain’s natural assets.

NEWBIE REPORT: Lindsay finally attempts to snowboard

Blog report about Lindsay Finchers "first time"...

"I went snowboarding for the first time in my life yesterday. Actually, I’ve never been skiing, either, so it was my first attempt at a snow sport that didn’t involve a cheaply made plastic saucer you buy at Target on your way to the mountain house. I don’t know why I haven’t been snowboarding before now. It’s not that California lacks ski resorts – we’ve got plenty of them, in fact. Just never got around to it, I guess. We were always more of a “let’s avoid anything resembling an actual winter” family. The beach was our scene."
