Snowboard magazine ranks Snowmass first, Buttermilk third overall

Snowmass has been named the top overall resort in Transworld Snowboarding’s 2011-2012 rankings. Buttermilk came in third.

Yes, that’s right. The Transworld poll, based on a reader survey, ranked our own 470-acre Buttermilk Mountain Ski Resort as the third best “total package” resort. Whistler/Blackcomb, British Columbia, came in fourth.

Top Five US Snowboard Vacation Locations: From Mammoth Mountain to Park City

Although snowboarding is relatively new in the world of snow sports, it is far from unpopular—more than 450,000 snowboards were sold in the 2010-2011 season alone. The popularity of the sport is fueled by many factors—its inclusion in the Winter Olympics and televised events such as the X-Games; the rise of marketable stars such as Shawn White; the availability of equipment; and of course, the increase in top-notch facilities for boarding. Although the quality and availability of slopes differs greatly across the nation, many areas—the northeast, midwest and Pacific northwest in particular—are blessed with beautiful swaths of powder, smooth mountain courses and all the kickers, half-pipes, boxes and rails a boarder could possibly ask for. It would be impossible to hit all of the top snowboarding spots in one trip, but several areas do stand out as the best destinations for snowboard vacations.

Mammoth Mountain, CA: If California strikes you as the least likely place for a killer snowboarding vacation, you're in for a surprise. Mammoth Mountain ranked number one on Away.com's list of top ski resorts for snowboarding and number two in TransWorld's 2011 readers poll for best snowboarding resort. This mountain lives up to its name, with 3,500 acres, 150 trails, nine parks and a top elevation of 11,053 feet. According to Mammoth Mountain's website , the area receives 300 days of sunlight yearly, so nearly any time is a perfect time to visit.

YAHOO! SPORTS: Best Snowboard Gloves or Mittens for Women

Snowboarding is an extremely popular winter sport for both men and women alike. Great snowboard gloves are a necessity for women snowboarders, but are sometimes more difficult for women to find. What are a few of the best snowboard gloves or mittens for women this season?

Swany X-Therm Mittens. Winter mittens always seem to offer greater warmth than fingered gloves during prolonged outdoor activities. The Swany X-Therm Mittens are actually a bit of a combination-they offer warm fleece "fingers" inside the mitten covering for added warmth, waterproof technology and heat reflective fabric that returns heat to the wearer . They also house an extra zippered pocket which can be used to store hand warmers, or offer a secure, out of the way storage spot for the ski lodge room key or an id card.

Stunning scenery, eye-catching tricks and a few bruises... snowboarding has it all

Imagine, if you will, your working day begins high up in The Alps, not far from Val d'Isère in south east France.

The thick snow crunches underfoot, the clear, crisp air nips at small patches of exposed skin.

To some, the vast landscape stretching as far as the eye can see is best viewed from a warm cabin with a roaring fire. To others, like Jenny Jones, it's a playground.

Welcome to the world of ollies, poptarts and flails. Welcome to the world of snowboarding.

I meet Jenny, one of the best boarders this country has produced, almost 800 miles from where she fell in love with the sport, at the SNO!zone in Milton Keynes. Read More

Shaun White Stoked To Add Action Sports Company To His Portfolio

Shaun White earns about $7 million a year from endorsements, relatively low among professional athletes but a nice piece of change for someone whose main source of consumer awareness comes from skateboarding and snowboarding.

White this week added to his personal cottage industry with the official launch of action sports hard goods line Shaun White Supply Co. The strategy moves White from participant and spokesperson to entrepreneur as the business will supply to consumers and other companies such items as skateboards, helmets, pads, balance boards, 3-in-1 grind rails and ramps. In March, the company will begin to offer BMX Bikes. Read More

Mägert-Kohli and Fischnaller victorious at season's first parallel event

The two race boarders successfully competed against the international field of almost 100 riders coming from 16 countries at SnowWorld Landgraaf, Holland, where this winter's first parallel slalom was hosted. In the women's big final, Mägert-Kohli relegated last year's indoor World Cup winner Ekaterina Tudegesheva (RUS) to the runner-up position. In the battle for third, Marion Kreiner (AUT) had the better end than surprising fourth ranked rider Nadya Ochner (ITA).

On the men's side, Fischnaller was a nose ahead in the duel for victory with his South Tyrol team mate Aaron March (ITA). Andreas Prommegger (AUT) prevented an Italian podium sweep by edging off Meinhard Erlacher (ITA) to fourth in the small final. Read More
